If you are looking for a Veterans Organization that is dedicated to assisting Veterans and their families, look no more. You have found the right VFW Post.
The members of VFW Post 2423 are very active in our mission.
Here are some of the activities that Post members are actively involved in:
Honor Guard - The Honor Guard conducts military honors at Veteran's funerals and memorials. The Honor Guard participates in 1-2 military funerals a week.
Public Schools - Members of the Post are constantly traveling to County schools to educate our children in such topics as: Flag folding, Patriotism, Americanism, Veterans Day Ceremonies, Memorial Day Ceremonies, and other topics requested by school administrators.
Veteran Services - VFW Post 2423 works hand in hand with the Union County Veterans Council and assists in many ways. Almost daily, members are transporting other Veterans to VA hospitals, not only locally, but throughout the State.
Fund Raisers - Members are very active in fund raising events, with the proceeds going towards the assistance for Veterans.
Nursing Homes - Monthly, members travel to local area nursing homes to visit military veterans. It is important that we do not forget those veterans that sacrificed for this Great Nation and now are currently confined to assisted living.
Ceremonies - VFW Post 2423 hosts ceremonies for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veterans Day. We have also conducted several awards ceremonies, where Veterans (for what ever reason) have not received the medals that they earned during times of conflict.
Harry Floyd Breakfast - Once a month (first Saturday of the month) members gather at the Post for a breakfast. It is a good time to sit and talk to other Combat Veterans and to share past experiences. Then after the breakfast, member work around the Post.
Monthly Work Day - Following the Harry Flood breakfast, members breakout into work details. Over the last three years, members have built a memorial park and have made improvements to the Post building. Members just recently completed an outdoor patio and outdoor kitchen area. Members are currently working towards building horse shoe pits and a shuffle board court.
Wednesday Night Activities - Every Wednesday evening, members gather for an evening of camaraderie. This is a great time to gather and shoot pool and share stories.
Dinner And A Movie - Every Friday night, members gather for Friday Night Movie Night and enjoy a meal.
We are committed to helping those Veterans in need and honoring those that are with us. Most of the public think that a VFW Post is nothing more than a "beer joint". We are not that Post. We are dedicated to helping those veterans in need and honoring those that have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Currently, the Post has 226 members. During meeting nights, between 45-70 members will be in attendance at the meeting. Percentage wise, we have more active members than any other VFW Post in the State of North Carolina.
The Ladies Auxiliary is very active at the Post and support the Veterans. Monthly fund raisers are being conducted as well as other events. During work days and projects, the Ladies Auxiliary is always there to support and to fix a great meal.
If you are a combat veteran, then you qualify to join. Please stop by the Post and become a member. Hope to see you there.
